FINAL IRON CURTAIN INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
We
kindly invite you, dear Readers, to participate on the Final Iron
Curtain International Symposium, which will be held in Vienna, Austria,
November 3rd to 5th of 2004.

Project meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece 22.09.2003 - 27.09.2003
The 6th project meeting was held on
the Greek/Bulgarian reference area in the last week of September.
The first day of the meeting was a kind of modelling workshop to introduce
the use of the Vensim model for project partners by the OKOSYS from
the point of view of Iron Curtain Project. In the next two days the
planum meeting was arranged, the main themes were related-to the second
year status report, the method and technical issues, and the project
planning for the next half year. The planum meeting was followed by
the board meeting. In the next three days the consortium was taking
a fieltrip on the reference area, in the valley of Mesta/Nestos river
(Bansko, Bulgaria, Thesaurus Dam, Nestos delta, Greece).
The host of the meeting was the Aristotele University of Thessaloniki
with the leading of Prof., Dr. Yannis Mylopoulos, who ensured all
conditions for the consortium to get to know well the true Greek hospitality
and lifestyle.

The next project meeting will be held in Miskolc,
Hungary, 7-12, March, 2003.
Bicycle trip through the Reference Area
Austria-Czech Republic
27.07.2003 - 03.08.2003
A very interesting bicycle
trip was organized on the Austrian-Czech Reference Area, between
St. P�lten and Cesk� Budejovice (Budweis). In the course of trip
the participants visited the most significant natural and cultural
sights and met the experts of the local organizations. The description

Project Workshop in Rh�n Mountains and Jena, Germany
- April 2003
The fifth project meeting was arranged in Germany,
between April 2 and 5 of 2003. The first two days of the meeting was
held in Rh�n Mountains, more exactly in the Eisenacher Haus.
The reason of the selection for the meeting place
was that the third, German/German reference area is situated here.
By this means the project partners can get impressions beside the
updated information, which help to extend theirs knowledge about
this area.
On the first day the coordinator, Mr. Hans K�rzl,
presented the project for the local interested parties, later the
collaborators of the Biosphere Reserve Rh�n gave an introduction
to the hosting reference area. On the second day the partners participated
on a field trip, where they could look at a sheep farm, a test site
of the self-replantation of the typical local vegetation, a part
of the former iron curtain and the Schwarzes Moor. The further two
days of the meeting was organized in Jena-Friedrich Schiller University,
namely in the Department of the Geography. Where the participants
dealt with the project planning and important specific issues.
